Seventeen additional households of Riew village in Siang district have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities under the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP). The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, Village Development Committee Chairman Talum Tabing, and Vice Chairman Tajan Taki.
Earlier, 62 percent of the village households had signed the MoU in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, paving the way for the commencement of the PFR for the ambitious 11,000 MW hydropower project. With the latest agreement, a majority of the village has now extended its support to the initiative.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein lauded the community’s cooperation, stating that the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project holds immense potential to strengthen the state’s economy, generate opportunities for youth, and contribute significantly to the nation’s energy requirements. He assured that development efforts would remain sensitive to local aspirations and environmental concerns, commending the trust and unity demonstrated by the villagers.
