Agartala, July 28, 2025: A BJP event to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat” program in Asharambari turned violent on Sunday after alleged supporters of the Tipra Matha Party stormed the venue, leaving at least seven BJP workers injured and several vehicles damaged.
The incident occurred at Booth No. 30 of East Takchaiya ADC Village, where BJP workers had gathered to hear the monthly radio address. Around 30–35 individuals reportedly entered the venue and began attacking those present.
“Suddenly, a group of miscreants came in and disrupted the event. They said the Prime Minister’s program couldn’t be played in the ADC area,” said BJP leader Bipin Debbarma, condemning the attack. “They vandalized 10 to 15 bikes and smashed two cars. Some of them were armed with sharp weapons and even country-made guns.”
According to Debbarma, seven BJP workers sustained injuries, two of whom are in critical condition and have been referred to GB Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.
Local police arrived swiftly at the scene following the attack. A senior officer confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. “We will identify the culprits and take strict legal action. Law and order will be maintained at all costs,” the officer said, noting that a significant police presence has been deployed in the area to prevent further unrest.
The incident has raised eyebrows in political circles, particularly because Tipra Motha is considered an ally of the BJP in Tripura. The clash has led to widespread speculation about the stability of the alliance.
“It’s very disappointing. We have informed the state party president and the Chief Minister. A BJP delegation will soon visit the location to assess the situation,” Debbarma remarked.
