Agartala, September 11, 2025: Tripura’s Kailashahar in Unakoti District witnessed heightened tension on Thursday during a 12-hour bandh called by the Unkoti District Congress, as incidents of violence and vandalism were reported across the town.
Several vehicles were allegedly attacked, and drivers claimed they were assaulted by miscreants. A driver, Rahul Saddar, who is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, alleged that police took a bribe of ₹200 at the Chinibagan Naka point without informing them about the bandh. “As soon as we crossed the naka, miscreants vandalized our vehicle and beat us. My entire body aches,” he said. Another driver also reported that his parked vehicle was damaged by Congress workers.
Responding to the situation, Unakoti District Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R said, “Some minor incidents took place due to the bandh, but no untoward incident occurred.” She also refuted the allegations of bribery.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, led by Kailashahar Mandal president Pritam Ghosh, staged a counter-mobilization. Thousands of BJP activists moved through different areas on motorbikes, urging people to defy what they termed a “destructive bandh.” Ghosh said, “We are making people aware and requesting them to resume work.”
Despite the protests, shops across Kailashahar largely remained shut in support of the bandh. Attendance was also visibly thin in government offices, including the Public Works Department and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office.
