Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday launched the ‘Shraddhanjali’ scheme to provide free and dignified transportation of the mortal remains of Assamese residents who die outside the state.
The Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that residents are brought back to their homeland with honour, highlighting the sensitivity of the administration toward the emotional needs of families during bereavement.
The scheme will be implemented by the state’s Home and Political Department in coordination with the Assam Police, facilitating the swift and respectful return of mortal remains from any part of India.
