Itanagar, October 2025: The District Level Monthly NCORD Meeting for Tawang district was convened today at the Conference Hall of the DC Office, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rinchin Leta. The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. D.W. Thongon, Dy. SP Tasso Kato, OC (SB) Kesang Norbu, DDSE Hridhar Phuntsok, CDPO Dondup Pema, OC PS Niyi Angu, along with representatives from the SSB, State and Central intelligence agencies, the Market Welfare Committee, and other stakeholders.
Dy. SP Tasso Kato presented a detailed overview of the anti-drug initiatives undertaken by Tawang Police across the district. SP Dr. Thongon informed the house that CCTV cameras have been installed at 13 locations with uninterrupted power supply and monitoring arrangements in nearby residential areas, with due permission from property owners. He added that the remaining areas will be covered in the second phase of installation.
The SP further requested the DDSE to coordinate with relevant agencies to conduct awareness camps in schools, limiting them to one per month to avoid academic disruptions. He also sought updates from the CDPO on the proposed Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, to which the CDPO clarified that the proposal for Tawang has been dropped.
Appealing to the public, Dr. Thongon urged citizens to act responsibly in curbing the flow of synthetic drugs by reporting through the MANAS portal, emphasizing the need for the community to be the “eyes and ears” of the police.
In his address, ADC Rinchin Leta suggested that the Agriculture Department procure sprayers and herbicides to destroy wild cannabis. He commended the joint efforts of the SSB, District Police, and villagers in uprooting cannabis plants and encouraged continued cooperation to achieve the goal of making Tawang a Drug-Free District.
The meeting concluded with an open house discussion, where members shared valuable suggestions, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by OC (SB) Kesang Norbu.
