In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the police, seized heroin valued at approximately Rs 3 crore in Cachar district.
Acting on specific intelligence, security personnel intercepted a car near Pallapool on Thursday and discovered the narcotics concealed inside. The driver, a resident of Karimganj, was arrested, and the vehicle was seized.
Officials said the operation demonstrates Assam Rifles’ continued efforts to combat drug trafficking across the Northeast. The force has been regularly conducting coordinated actions to prevent smuggling along inter-state routes.
Earlier this week, Assam Rifles, working with Manipur Police, carried out operations in Senapati and Kangpokpi districts, seizing 3.6 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 7 crore and apprehending six traffickers.
In another major operation, Assam Police and Assam Rifles recently confiscated 10,000 Yaba tablets and 1.25 lakh packets of Esse Light cigarettes valued at Rs 8 crore during a riverine operation along the Assam–Manipur border under Lakhipur Police Station jurisdiction.
Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta confirmed that the recovered items and the arrested individual have been handed over for further investigation and legal proceedings.
