Agartala, November 05, 2025: Residents of Bachai Bari in Tripura’s Khowai subdivision booked two Bangladeshi nationals attempting to flee in a vehicle and handed them over to the police after allegedly assaulting them. The individuals identified as Sagar Das and Bikash Das from Comilla, Bangladesh were reportedly trying to enter India illegally through the porous border.

Local sources informed that the duo was intercepted by vigilant residents who had received prior information about the intrusion. The suspects were allegedly roughed up before being handed over to Champahaour police. Due to the severity of their injuries, both were initially taken to Khowai District Hospital and later referred to GB Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.

This incident is part of a growing pattern of illegal cross-border movement, driven by political instability in Bangladesh. Both Hindu and Muslim citizens are reportedly fleeing the country in search of safety, with many entering India through vulnerable stretches of the Khowai border.

Authorities believe a well-organized human trafficking network is facilitating these illegal entries. On the same day, police arrested two alleged traffickers Abhijit Nama (22) of Ramchandraghat and Babon Debnath (33) of Jambura, who were reportedly involved in smuggling Bangladeshi nationals into India for money.

The region has witnessed several such incidents in recent weeks. A few days back, multiple Bangladeshis were spotted entering Lakshmipur village near Sombaira Bazar under Champahawar police station, triggering unrest among locals.

Residents of border villages like Bachai Bari and Asharam Bari have expressed growing frustration, blaming lax vigilance by border security forces for the repeated breaches. Tensions remain high in these areas, with locals demanding stricter enforcement and better surveillance to curb illegal infiltration.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the trafficking network and have stepped up patrols along the border to prevent further incidents.
