Tripura Court Sentences Man to 20 Years for Minor’s Abduction and Rape

Agartala, December 4, 2025: A district court in Unakoti has delivered its verdict in a case involving the abduction and rape of a minor girl from Srinathpur under Irani Police Station. Additional District and Sessions Judge Amarendra Kumar Singh sentenced the accused, Arid Ali, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.

On October 25, 2022, the minor went missing in the evening, prompting her family to search for her. Investigations later revealed that Arid Ali, son of Rahman Ali of Ichbpur village, along with another accomplice, abducted the girl on a motorbike and took her to Golokpur tea estate.

The following day, October 26, the victim’s father lodged a complaint at Irani Police Station. Investigating Officer Kingkar Pal swiftly rescued the girl and arrested the accused. On November 30, the charge sheet was filed before the Special Court, and the case was registered under POCSO Act 9/23.

During the trial, the prosecution presented 13 witnesses, and Public Prosecutor Sunirmal Deb stated that the court awarded five years of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000 under IPC Section 363 for kidnapping, and twenty years of imprisonment with a fine of ₹10,000 under IPC Section 376 and the POCSO Act for the rape of a minor.

In default of payment, the accused will serve additional imprisonment.

The victim and her family expressed satisfaction at receiving justice, while local residents welcomed the verdict, calling it a long-awaited step towards accountability.
