A delegation from the Kagawa Prefectural Assembly of Japan is on an official visit to Manipur to explore avenues for bilateral cooperation, with a focus on human resource development and collaboration across key economic sectors.
The visiting delegation held a meeting with the Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, along with the Secretary (Skills, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship).
Another meeting was convened with senior state government officials under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary, Trade, Commerce and Industries, at the Old Secretariat, Babupara.
The meetings facilitated detailed discussions on potential areas of mutual interest, including institutional linkages and people-to-people cooperation. The head of the Kagawa delegation made a presentation highlighting the socio-economic profile of Kagawa Prefecture, its industrial strengths, and its increasing engagement with foreign human resources.
The Japanese delegation outlined the current status of foreign workforce acceptance in Kagawa and expressed interest in collaborating with Manipur to meet labour demands in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, construction, manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, accommodation and food services, and social welfare, with special emphasis on nursing care.
Officials from various departments of the Manipur government, including Trade, Commerce and Industries, Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture, Forest, and allied sectors, participated in the discussions and shared the state’s potential and capabilities in skill development, particularly in nursing and healthcare.
The visit is seen as a significant step towards strengthening international cooperation and creating new opportunities for employment, skill development, and institutional partnerships between Manipur and Kagawa Prefecture.
Both sides expressed optimism that the discussions would lead to concrete outcomes in the near future.
