Tripura: NFR to Convert SCL–AGTL Express and AGTL–DMR Passenger Trains to LHB Coaches from January 2026

Agartala, December 23, 2025: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has decided to convert two key train services operating in Tripura and adjoining areas from conventional coaches to modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches, aiming to enhance passenger safety, comfort and operational efficiency.

According to an official notification issued by the Office of the Principal Chief Operations Manager, NFR, the 15664/15663 Silchar–Agartala–Silchar Express (Daily) and the 55675/55676 Agartala–Dharmanagar–Agartala Passenger (Daily) will be upgraded with revised LHB coach compositions.

The Silchar–Agartala–Silchar Express will operate with two rakes and its existing conventional coach composition will be replaced by LHB coaches, including LWL RRM, LWACC, LWSCN, LWSZAC and LWSCZ coaches. The revised LHB composition will come into effect from Silchar on January 1, 2026, and from Agartala on January 2, 2026.

Similarly, the Agartala–Dharmanagar–Agartala Passenger train will also be converted to LHB coaches. The present composition of 22 conventional coaches will be reduced to 16 LHB coaches, comprising LWS, LSLRD and general LHB coaches. The revised arrangement will be effective from Agartala on January 1, 2026, and from Dharmanagar on January 2, 2026.

Railway officials said the conversion to LHB coaches is part of Indian Railways’ broader modernization drive, which focuses on improved ride quality, higher safety standards, better braking systems and reduced maintenance requirements.

The notification has been circulated to all concerned railway departments for necessary action.
