Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led government of disregarding the pressing concerns of the nation, particularly the economic situation, employment prospects, and the weakening of the Indian currency. Gogoi argued that these issues have created a mindset among Indians, especially the youth, who increasingly aspire to leave the country in search of a better future.

Addressing reporters, Gogoi said that citizens are deeply worried about jobs, manufacturing, and India’s global standing amid China’s rise. He alleged that instead of addressing these challenges, the government chooses to distract the public. “Indians, whether young or old, poor or wealthy, are leaving India for a better future. This is the current mindset of India which the BJP or the Prime Minister are simply choosing to ignore,” he remarked.

His criticism coincided with Prime Minister Modi achieving a historic milestone by becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of 4,398 consecutive days in office. Modi has now completed 12 years in power, serving 4,399 days across three consecutive terms.

Earlier in the day, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan congratulated Modi, describing the achievement as symbolic of a “transformative era” in India’s development journey. He noted that the milestone reflected progress across economic growth, infrastructure, social empowerment, and India’s global stature. Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Rajnath Singh, NDA allies, and several international leaders also extended their congratulations, emphasizing Modi’s leadership as a defining chapter in India’s modern political history.
