Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday inaugurated the new Guwahati Police Commissionerate building and a city-wide surveillance network aimed at strengthening policing and public safety in Assam’s largest city.

The eight-storey commissionerate building, constructed at a cost of Rs 111 crore at Khanapara, houses all branches of the Guwahati Police under one roof. The facility includes seating capacity for around 400 personnel, a police library, and an archive.

As part of the overall Rs 292-crore project, Shah also inaugurated the Intelligence City Surveillance System (ICSS), developed at a cost of Rs 181 crore. The ICSS includes an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) equipped with around 2,000 CCTV cameras and 60 citizen safety alerting systems across the city.

During the event, Shah also launched an exhibition on the new criminal laws, titled Naveen Nyaya Sanhita. The exhibition, organised by the Criminal Investigation Department of Assam Police, aims to create public awareness about the newly introduced legal framework.
