Agartala, January 23, 2026: Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, is set to arrive in Agartala today to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development initiatives at a ceremonial function at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala city.

During his visit, the Minister will inspect the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Department of Agartala Government Medical College, followed by a visit to the Agartala Government Dental College. He will also offer prayers at the revered Tripura Sundari Temple in Matabari.

Beginning January 24, Scindia will embark on a three-day tour across Tripura, with a focus on promoting agarwood cultivation, reviewing infrastructure projects, and engaging with local communities.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry of DoNER, Angshuman Dey on Wednesday said, the Minister will travel to Kadamtala in North Tripura district, where villagers have adopted advanced techniques for cultivating agar trees and exporting the produce. “Two projects have been sanctioned by the Ministry of DoNER to support this initiative, and the Minister will lay the foundation stones during his visit. He is also likely to address a mass rally there,” Dey informed.

Highlighting the Centre’s broader vision, Dey added, “The Ministry of DoNER, in collaboration with other ministries, is working on a comprehensive initiative to develop the entire value chain of agarwood—from cultivation to processing and export. A digital platform to streamline these processes is also in the pipeline.”

To strengthen the agarwood industry, two Common Facility Centers are being established—one in Kadamtala, Tripura, and another in Golaghat, Assam. These centers, set up on land provided by the respective state governments, will serve as pilot projects with potential for replication in other regions based on performance.

Scindia’s itinerary also includes a visit to Unakoti district, underscoring his interest in both the region’s agarwood potential and its rich cultural heritage. He will later proceed to Narikel Kunja, a key site within the Matabari Circuit, where nine development projects are currently underway. The Minister is expected to unveil the foundation stone of the circuit and interact with local residents following an overnight stay in the area.
