Agartala, May 16, 2026: A tragic railway accident claimed the life of a young man after he was struck by a moving train traveling from Sabroom to Agartala early on Saturday morning. The incident took place in the area between Kalapara and Durgaraipara under the Santirbazar subdivision, triggering shock and concern among local residents.

Reportedly, the accident took place when the train was heading towards Agartala from Sabroom. Upon receiving information about the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Manpathar Police Station, Jayanta Das, immediately rushed to the spot along with police personnel.

Police sources stated that the identity of the deceased youth has not yet been established. The impact of the collision was so severe that the victim’s head and face were badly crushed, making identification difficult. OC Jayanta Das said that preliminary investigation indicates the youth was hit by the moving train while he was on or near the railway tracks.

Local residents suspect that the young man had gone out for a morning walk and may have become a victim of the accident due to negligence while walking along the tracks. Residents also pointed out that two similar train-related deaths had previously occurred in the same area, raising concerns over safety along the railway route.

Following the incident, personnel from the Santirbazar Fire Service arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and transported it to South Tripura District Hospital at Santirbazar for post-mortem examination.

The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom across the locality. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated a detailed investigation into the matter.
