Guwahati, Jan 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on February 14 to inaugurate several major infrastructure projects, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday.
During the visit, Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a bridge over the Brahmaputra River connecting two parts of Guwahati and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) campus in the city. He will also dedicate 100 electric buses to the state.
Speaking during a Facebook Live from Davos, Sarma added that the Prime Minister may make an additional visit in February to lay the foundation stone for the proposed railway line between Kokrajhar in Assam and Gelephu in Bhutan. He is also expected to lay foundation stones for a railway coach manufacturing factory at Kokrajhar and the Guwahati–Silchar Express Highway.
This will mark Modi’s third visit to Assam in the past three months. He previously visited the state on December 20 and January 17, inaugurating multiple development projects and addressing public rallies.
Assembly elections in Assam are scheduled in the coming months.
