Agartala, January 27, 2026: A devastating fire ripped through Pungkoi Traders, a rubber factory in Madhuban ADC Village No. 2 under North Tripura district, late Monday night, reducing its warehouse to ashes and destroying nearly 55 tons of rubber sheets.
Factory owner Pritam Chandra Nath estimated the losses at around Rs 1.8 crore, noting that the stock of rubber sheets alone was valued between Rs 95 lakh and Rs 1 crore. The factory building itself, constructed at a cost of Rs 80 lakh, was also gutted in the blaze.
Nath, who had attended a religious gathering in Anandabazar after work, said he rushed back around 11–11:30 p.m. upon hearing unusual sounds, only to find his factory engulfed in flames.
Emergency services responded promptly, with two fire engines from Dharmanagar, and one each from Panisagar and Kadamtala, deployed to the site. Despite their efforts, the intensity of the fire made it impossible to save the warehouse.
Visibly shaken, Nath described the incident as a catastrophic setback, breaking down as he surveyed the destruction.
Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.
