Itanagar, Jan 29: The Arunachal Pradesh government has declared January 30 as a day of state mourning to honor late Takar Marde, former Minister for Home, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, and ex-Deputy Speaker of the state assembly.
Marde, a senior leader from Upper Subansiri district, passed away at a New Delhi hospital on January 28, leaving a significant void in the state’s political and social spheres. He was widely recognized for his contributions to public service and the development and welfare of Arunachal Pradesh.
An official order from the Secretary, General Administration, directed that the National Flag be flown at half-mast across the state and at all state government offices outside Arunachal on Friday. All official entertainment and celebratory events will remain suspended during the mourning period.
In Upper Subansiri, Marde’s home district, government offices, educational institutions, and private businesses will remain closed on Friday. His last rites will include a state ceremonial guard of honor in recognition of his service. The government has extended condolences to his family and requested the public to pay their respects.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu paid tribute to Marde on Thursday, describing him as a distinguished statesman who served as MLA, Deputy Speaker, Cabinet Minister, and Chairman of the State Planning Board. Khandu said, “His lifelong dedication to public service and Arunachal’s development will be remembered with respect and gratitude. May his departed soul rest in eternal peace. Om Mani Padme Hum.”
