Guwahati, March 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its first list of 88 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections scheduled for April 9.

Among the prominent names is Pradyut Bordoloi, the veteran MP who quit the Congress earlier this week to join the BJP. He has been fielded from the Dispur constituency.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will once again contest from Jalukbari, a seat he has held since 2001. Sarma won his first three terms as a Congress candidate before switching to the BJP, where he has since consolidated his political base.

The list also includes six women candidates, notably Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, who will contest again.
