Shillong, May 15: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved the launch of a degree course in urban planning at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning in Tura, beginning with the 2026–27 academic session. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced the development on Thursday, noting that the program will have an intake capacity of 30 seats.
Affiliated with Captain Williamson Sangma State University, the college will now offer students in Meghalaya the opportunity to pursue professional education in urban and regional planning within the state. Sangma described the approval as a significant milestone, emphasizing that the program will help create a skilled workforce to support sustainable and planned development across Meghalaya.
“This is an important milestone for Meghalaya as it will create opportunities for our youth to pursue professional education in urban and regional planning within the state, while also building a skilled workforce to support sustainable and planned development across Meghalaya,” Sangma said in a statement.
He added that the new course would strengthen the state’s capacity for planned urban growth and infrastructure development in the years ahead, aligning with Meghalaya’s vision for sustainable progress.
