Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a high-level review meeting on March 29, underscoring the importance of unity, peace and effective governance, even as tensions persisted in Ukhrul district following recent violence.
The meeting, attended by BJP MLAs at the State Secretariat, focused on strengthening what the Chief Minister described as “people-centric governance and responsive administration,” aimed at translating public aspirations into tangible outcomes. Discussions also explored ways to enhance the reach, efficiency and impact of development programmes to ensure benefits reach all sections of society.
Highlighting the need for harmony, Khemchand Singh emphasised fostering unity, peace and collective progress, noting that such values have historically helped Manipur navigate challenging periods. He also commended party legislators for their dedication, commitment and shared sense of responsibility.
The review meeting comes amid renewed concern over the law and order situation in Ukhrul district, where violence was reported on Sunday. Authorities have described the situation as tense.
Responding to the developments, the Chief Minister appealed to communities, including the Tangkhul Naga group, to help defuse tensions and maintain peace. Expressing concern, he said he was saddened by the incident and reiterated that violence cannot provide any solution.
He urged all sections to refrain from confrontation, adding that the government is treating the matter with seriousness and that the law will take its own course.
The latest unrest follows earlier clashes in Litan village in February, where violence between Tangkhul and Kuki groups led to a five-day suspension of internet services due to the volatile situation.
Officials said efforts are ongoing to stabilise the region and prevent further escalation, while the state leadership continues to stress peace and inclusive development.
