A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rainfall struck villages in the Rambrai area of West Khasi Hills, leaving Mawlangbah village severely affected. According to the village Sordar, nearly 20 houses were damaged, while the Mawlangbah Presbyterian Church and the local LP School also sustained significant destruction.
One family was particularly hard hit when their house collapsed, injuring four members. The injured Carmelius Lyngdoh (37), Bisdalin Kharbani (30), Ribok Kharbani (13), and Shngainbor Kharbani (9) were rushed to Civil Hospital Nongstoin. Their transportation faced delays as fallen trees blocked roads, complicating emergency efforts.
Family members indicated that the father and one child may need to be shifted to Shillong for advanced medical care. Meanwhile, authorities have begun assessing the extent of the damage as residents initiate recovery efforts in the wake of the storm’s devastation.
