Itanagar, April 25: A Public Works Department engineer in Arunachal Pradesh was killed on Saturday morning when a tree, uprooted by strong winds and heavy rain, fell on his car in Keyi Panyor district.
Police identified the victim as 43-year-old Deken Sorang, a junior engineer with the PWD. He was travelling from Itanagar to Parsi Parlo with his driver, Shan Rai, when the accident occurred.
Keyi Panyor Superintendent of Police Angad Mehta said a police team rushed to the site after receiving information about the incident. Both Sorang and Rai were pulled from the debris and taken to a nearby community health centre.
Authorities have launched an inquiry into the accident, which highlights the risks posed by severe weather conditions in the hilly terrain of the state.
