Sikkim Celebrates 51st Statehood Day; Vice President CP Radhakrishnan Attends Event In Gangtok

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Saturday participated in the 51st Statehood Day celebrations of Sikkim held at Manan Kendra in Gangtok, alongside Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Union Minister for Communications and DoNER Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba.

The Chief Minister described the Vice President’s visit as his first road journey to the state, noting that it took place despite challenging weather conditions. He said the Vice President’s presence added significance to the occasion, which also saw the virtual inauguration of several development projects.

He also expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s address and appreciation for Sikkim’s development initiatives. Referring to the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the state’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Chief Minister noted the recognition of Sikkim’s efforts in sustainable development and environmental conservation.

The Chief Minister reiterated the state’s commitment to the national vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” emphasizing unity, development, and progress. He also emphasized national security, unity, and integrity as key priorities.

Tributes were paid to the late former Chief Minister of Sikkim L. D. Kazi, acknowledging his contribution to the establishment of democratic governance and the development of modern Sikkim.

The occasion also saw acknowledgements of the contributions of former governors, chief ministers, legislators, officials, and citizens in shaping the state’s progress since its formation as India’s 22nd state.
