Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain has secured qualification for both the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after earning her place in India’s boxing team in the women’s 75 kg category during the national selection trials held in Patiala.

The Assam boxer displayed commanding form in the final bout, defeating Sanamacha Chanu with a unanimous 5-0 decision to reaffirm her position among India’s leading women boxers. With this victory, Borgohain will represent the country at two of the year’s most prestigious sporting events, the Commonwealth Games beginning on July 23 in Glasgow and the Asian Games starting on September 19 in Japan.

Born on October 2, 1997, Borgohain has established herself as one of India’s most accomplished boxers. She won bronze at the 2020 Olympic Games in the welterweight division, becoming only the third Indian boxer to claim an Olympic medal. Her career achievements include a gold medal at the 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and bronze medals at the 2018 and 2019 AIBA World Championships. She is the first female athlete from Assam to compete at the Olympics and was honored with the Arjuna Award in 2020.
