Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Sikkim on Monday for a two-day visit that will include a roadshow, the closing ceremony of the state’s golden jubilee celebrations, and the launch of development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore.
Officials confirmed that elaborate security measures have been implemented across Gangtok and adjoining areas in preparation for the visit. Modi is scheduled to land at the Libing helipad around 3 p.m. and proceed with a roadshow to Lok Bhawan.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister will tour the Orchidarium in Gangtok, where the newly developed “Swarnajayanti Maitri Manjari Park” will showcase the ecological and floral heritage of the state as a world-class Orchid Experience Centre.
At Paljor Stadium, Modi will participate in the closing ceremony marking 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood and unveil multiple projects spanning infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, power, urban development, environment, tourism, and agriculture. He is also expected to address the gathering during the event.
Last year, Modi was scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the year-long celebrations but was unable to reach the venue due to inclement weather. He addressed the gathering virtually from Bagdogra in West Bengal instead.
