NLU Tripura Organizes Nyaya Sangam 1.0 – A Conclave on Legal Aid and Pro Bono Service

Agartala, September 10, 2025: The National Law University, Tripura, in collaboration with its Pro Bono Club and Legal Aid Society, successfully organized its flagship event, Nyaya Sangam 1.0 – A Conclave on Legal Aid and Pro Bono Service, at the NLU Tripura Campus on Tuesday. The event witnessed the participation of around 200 law students from various law institutions across Tripura.

The conclave was inaugurated with inspiring remarks by Dr. Justice Amarnath Goud, who highlighted the significant strides made by the Tripura Judiciary in reducing the backlog of pending cases in both higher and lower courts. He emphasized the critical role of legal voluntarism and accountability of both the Bar and the Bench in strengthening the justice delivery system.

A key feature of the event was a panel discussion involving eminent personalities: Prof. S. K. Gupta, Senior Professor, Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University; Prasun De, Director of Panchayat, Government of Tripura; Amarjit Dey, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Tripura; and Rajib Paul, Experienced Para Legal Volunteer.

The panel deliberated on the prospects of enhanced collaboration between student committees of different law institutions within Tripura, the scope for inter-state university partnerships, and better engagement of student bodies with Legal Aid Societies and Pro Bono Agencies. Particular focus was given to promoting the socio-legal responsibility of student committees in fostering legal awareness and community service.

In his address, Prof. Dr. Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice Chancellor of NLU Tripura, outlined innovative approaches for collaboration between law student committees and the Panchayat departments of the Tripura government, signaling a forward-looking strategy to strengthen legal outreach at the grassroots level.

The event also saw active participation from faculty members and student representatives of the Legal Aid Societies and Pro Bono Clubs of other prominent law institutions in West Tripura, including: Tripura Government Law College, ICFAI University Tripura Law School, and Techno-India University Tripura Law School

Nyaya Sangam 1.0 successfully fostered a platform for meaningful dialogue on the pivotal role of student-led initiatives in promoting access to justice and pro bono legal services across the state.
