Agartala, May 14, 2026: To promote Tripura’s famed GI-tagged Queen Pineapple in the international market, the state government will organize a three-day “Pineapple Festival” in Delhi from June 27 to 29, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nathannounced on Wednesday.
The decision was discussed during a review meeting attended by officials from the Agriculture and Horticulture, Forest, Handicrafts and other departments in the presence of MP Rajib Bhattacharjee.
Addressing the media, the minister said the festival aims to showcase Tripura’s Queen Pineapple on the global stage and attract participants from different parts of the world. He said the state government is planning to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the event and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to attend the programme. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, members of the Delhi Cabinet and MPs will also be invited.
The minister said Tripura’s Queen Pineapple, which has received the GI tag and is also the state fruit, is globally known for its sweetness and quality. He stated that the three-day celebration, coinciding with International Pineapple Day, is aimed at boosting global branding and ensuring better returns for pineapple growers in the state.
Highlighting the government’s expansion plans, Nath informed that a Rs 236 crore project is being implemented jointly by the Union Agriculture Ministry, the DONER Ministry and the Tripura Government to strengthen Queen Pineapple cultivation, processing and export infrastructure.
According to the minister, Queen Pineapple is currently cultivated across 12,097 hectares in the state with a production of around 1.77 lakh metric tonnes. Since the present government assumed office, Tripura has exported Queen Pineapple to countries including Dubai, Germany, Oman and Russia.
He further said the project includes the establishment of cold storage chambers, collection centres, processing units and refrigerated transport vans to improve marketing and branding. A special processing centre for producing yarn from pineapple leaves will also be developed.
The major beneficiary areas under the project include Jampuijala, Mohanpur, Mohanbhog, Boxanagar, Kathalia, Killa, Padmabil, Mungiakami, Tulashikhar, Manu, Gandatwisa, Durgachowmuhani, Kumarghat, Gournagar and Chandipur blocks, where most of the project funds will be utilized, the minister added.
