Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Friday visited the campus of National Sports University at Koutruk in Imphal West district to review the progress of ongoing infrastructure development works and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing the country’s only National Sports University in Manipur.

The Chief Minister was received by Vice-Chancellor Daljit Singh Chaudhary and senior university officials before attending a review meeting at the academic building.

During the meeting, Assistant General Manager of National Building Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), Anirban Roy, briefed the Chief Minister on the status of the ongoing construction works at the campus.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the new campus would include 60 faculty residential units and a multi-purpose sports hall spread across the ground and first floors.

Addressing issues raised by university authorities, Yumnam Khemchand Singh stated that construction of the approach road would begin next week. He also announced that around six borewells would be dug as a temporary measure to address water shortage issues and assured deployment of adequate security personnel, if required, for smooth execution of the ongoing works.

Speaking to media persons, the Chief Minister said the university campus would have an intake capacity of around 1,300 students and that the project was targeted for completion by the end of this year.

MLAs Heikham Dingo Singh and Tongbram Robindro Singh, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh and other senior officials attended the meeting.

On his return from the university, the Chief Minister also visited the Koutruk Community Hall, where he interacted with local residents and assured them that their grievances would be looked into.
