Agartala, May 18, 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday underscored the transformative role of women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in reinforcing the rural economy, stating that their contribution has become a cornerstone of the state’s development trajectory.
Speaking at the Samriddhi Campaign 2.0 programme held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, the Chief Minister highlighted that nearly 4.95 lakh rural women are currently engaged in 55,569 SHGs under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM). He noted that these groups are not only ensuring financial independence for women but are also accelerating social progress at the grassroots.
Dr. Saha attributed the success of these initiatives to the state’s focused implementation of welfare schemes aimed at women’s empowerment, inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He asserted that the growing participation of women in income-generating activities has significantly strengthened household economies and fostered inclusive growth.
Emphasizing the broader economic impact, the Chief Minister pointed out that Tripura now ranks second in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth among northeastern states, with SHG-driven rural productivity playing a pivotal role.
The event also featured interactions with several “Lakhpati Didis,” who shared their journeys of financial success and self-reliance. Rural Development Secretary Abhishek Singh revealed that the state has already created around 1.08 lakh Lakhpati Didis and is aiming to scale the number up to 3.5 lakh within the next three years.
TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma elaborated on the achievements of the Samriddhi Abhiyan, noting that the first phase surpassed its loan disbursement target of Rs 100 crore by reaching nearly Rs 188 crore. In the second phase, against a target of Rs 150 crore, cumulative disbursement across both phases climbed to approximately Rs 488 crore, with strong support from banking institutions.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also launched the SHG Insurance Linkage Campaign, further strengthening financial security measures for SHG members across the state.
