Kohima, May 23: Nagaland Police has appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and act responsibly to maintain peace and communal harmony in the state, in view of the prevailing law and order situation in a neighbouring state and the possibility of unrest spreading to Nagaland.

In a press release issued by the PRO, PHQ, Nagaland Police cautioned the public against sharing, forwarding, or circulating any unverified information, rumours, or social media content that could lead to false, misleading, or provocative narratives.

The police noted that in the era of artificially generated content, unverified information can be easily used to spread misleading narratives. It also urged special caution against content that may disrupt ethnic and inter-community relations.

Nagaland Police appealed for restraint and patience, stating that individuals found deliberately or irresponsibly spreading fake news, rumours, or inflammatory content through social media or other platforms would face legal action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the IT Act, and other applicable laws.

The police further said that the situation is being closely monitored and that all necessary measures are in place to maintain peace and law and order across the state.
