Agartala, June 02, 2026: Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has urged the Central Government to introduce direct flight services between Agartala and Mumbai, citing the growing need for enhanced air connectivity between the northeastern state and India’s financial capital.

In a letter addressed to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Chowdhury referred to his earlier communication on the matter and reiterated the importance of establishing a direct air link between the two cities.

The minister stated that Tripura, being a strategically significant northeastern state, requires stronger connectivity with major metropolitan centres across the country. He emphasized that Mumbai is a crucial destination for trade, healthcare, higher education, tourism and employment opportunities, attracting a large number of people from Tripura every year.

According to Chowdhury, the absence of a direct flight often results in longer travel times, increased expenses and inconvenience for passengers. He expressed hope that the Ministry of Civil Aviation would give due consideration to the proposal and take necessary steps to introduce a direct Agartala–Mumbai flight service, which would significantly benefit travellers and contribute to the state’s economic and tourism development.
