Agartala, June 02, 2026: A tense situation prevailed at the Bishalgarh court premises in the late evening of Monday last following allegations of misconduct against an investigating officer in connection with the widely discussed Bishalgarh shooting case.
According to allegations raised by local residents and protesters, Mithun Saha, the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, allegedly behaved inappropriately with the wife of accused Ranabir Sarkar and attempted to molest her within the court premises. As news of the incident spread, a large number of local women gathered at the court complex and staged a protest, demanding immediate action against the officer and an impartial investigation into the allegations.
Eyewitnesses reported that the demonstration intensified as more women joined the protest. Police personnel intervened to control the situation, leading to heated exchanges between protesters and law enforcement officials.
The protesters alleged that police used force to disperse the crowd, resulting in injuries to several women during the ensuing scuffle. Some demonstrators further claimed that the action was carried out under the direction of Bishalgarh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Vijay Das. However, no official statement from the police administration regarding these allegations had been received at the time of filing this report.
Additional police forces were deployed in and around the court premises as tension spread across the area. Protesters continued raising slogans and demanding a fair probe into the molestation allegations as well as strict action against those found responsible.
The incident has triggered widespread concern in Bishalgarh, with local residents urging the administration to conduct a transparent investigation and ensure justice. Authorities are reportedly monitoring the situation closely.
