Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday attended the final coordination meeting for the Maghey Sankranti Mela 2026 at Jorethang Nayabazar. The nine-day festival, scheduled from January 14 to 22, will mark the 71st edition of this historic celebration.
The expanded programme highlights Sikkim’s cultural heritage and community spirit. The sacred Sandhya Aarati will be observed throughout all nine days. The mela will also see the launch of its official website, brochure, table tent, and the logo and fixtures for the All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Football Tournament, featuring 16 teams from across the country.
The celebrations will include inter-constituency football matches, rural sports, and marathons. CM Tamang commended the efforts of all organising committees and urged departments and residents of the Salghari Zoom Constituency to participate actively to make Maghey Sankranti Mela 2026 a memorable and nationally recognised event.
