Agartala, June 03, 2026: Tripura has brought laurels to the state by securing three prestigious honors at the National Panchayat Awards 2025 conferred by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India. The awards recognize outstanding achievements in grassroots governance, sustainable development, healthcare initiatives, and inclusive rural administration.

Among the major achievements, the Sepahijala District Panchayat emerged as the Best District Panchayat in the country by securing the first position in the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (NDSPSVP) category. The district was recognized for its exemplary performance across various Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDG) themes and received a financial incentive of ₹5 crore.

In another significant accomplishment, Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat under Kumarghat block in Unakoti district was adjudged the Best Healthy Panchayat in the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP) category. The Panchayat secured the top national rank for its outstanding healthcare initiatives and grassroots-level health interventions, earning a cash award of ₹1 crore.

Adding to the state’s success, Baikunthapur Gram Panchayat under Hezamara block in West Tripura district secured third place nationally in the Women-Friendly Panchayat category under the DDUPSVP awards. The Panchayat was honored for its remarkable efforts towards women empowerment, gender-sensitive governance, and inclusive rural development. It received a financial incentive of ₹50 lakh.

The achievements underscore Tripura’s growing prominence in rural governance and its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development. The national recognition is expected to further encourage local bodies across the state to strengthen grassroots administration and improve public service delivery.
