Shillong, June 4: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has announced that discussions on the unresolved border disputes between Meghalaya and Assam will recommence once the Assam Cabinet expansion is completed.

He explained that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has conveyed readiness to continue joint inspections and negotiations in the remaining disputed areas but requested that talks be scheduled after the cabinet reshuffle so that the newly inducted ministers can participate in the process.

Tynsong also addressed Meghalaya’s long-standing demands for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

He stated that these issues could be raised with Union Home Minister Amit Shah if an opportunity arises during his visit. He emphasized that both demands have already been endorsed through resolutions passed by the Meghalaya Assembly and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to pursuing them with the Centre.

The Deputy Chief Minister Emphasized that while the state remains firm on advancing its constitutional and cultural demands, it will simultaneously continue dialogue with Assam to resolve the remaining areas of difference along the inter-state boundary.
