Agartala, June 12, 2026: An important meeting was held on Thursday at the Civil Secretariat in the backdrop of a proposed road blockade scheduled for June 12 by a section of surrendered insurgents. The meeting brought together State Minister Bikash Debbarma and representatives of the surrendered insurgent groups to deliberate on key pending issues.
During the discussions, detailed deliberations were held on matters related to rehabilitation policies, pending financial benefits, and various long-standing grievances raised by the surrendered insurgents. The representatives placed their demands before the government, urging prompt intervention and timely resolution of their concerns.
Minister Bikash Debbarma assured the delegation that the government is taking their issues seriously and that all genuine demands would be examined with due consideration. He emphasized that the administration remains committed to resolving such matters through peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement, rather than confrontation.
The surrendered insurgents, on their part, reiterated that the proposed agitation, including the road blockade on June 12, was announced to press for long-pending demands that they claim remain unaddressed for a considerable period.
The meeting is being viewed as significant given its timing, just a day before the proposed protest programme. It is expected to play a crucial role in determining the next course of action regarding the agitation.
With tensions and expectations running high, administrative circles, political observers, and the general public are closely watching whether the dialogue will lead to a breakthrough and the possible withdrawal or deferment of the planned blockade.
