Itanagar, May 14: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu met Dr. Joram Aniya on Thursday following her appointment as a full-time member of NITI Aayog, describing the development as a historic moment for both Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast region.

Dr. Aniya is the first person from Arunachal Pradesh, and widely regarded as the first from Northeast India, to be appointed to the country’s premier national policy institution. Her journey is marked by several milestones—she became the first Nyishi woman to earn a PhD, served as a dedicated academician at Dera Natung Government College, and now assumes a crucial role in shaping national policy.

Congratulating her, Chief Minister Khandu expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the appointment. He said her inclusion in the country’s highest policy think tank reflects the growing recognition of Arunachal and the Northeast in national decision-making. “Her inclusion allows the indigenous wisdom, lived realities, and unique perspectives of our region to contribute in shaping India’s development vision,” Khandu wrote on social media.

The Chief Minister extended his best wishes to Dr. Aniya as she begins her new responsibility, noting that her achievement is a source of pride and inspiration for the state and the region.
