Arunachal Pradesh: East Siang Police Arrest Drug Peddler In Pasighat

Itanagar, May 5: Under the ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, East Siang Police successfully apprehended a drug peddler in Pasighat on Tuesday, recovering suspected heroin and ganja during a targeted operation.

Acting on credible intelligence received at around 9:05 a.m., a police team led by ADS IC Shri Ayup Boko, APPS, along with L/Inspr Amum Panyang, SI K. Tangha, SI Kodak Dagium, and other personnel, placed a NAKA checkpoint and intercepted Maklung Tayeng, son of Bising Tayeng of Mebo, East Siang. The accused was traveling in a Nightsuper Bus when he was stopped in the presence of Executive Magistrate Sanjay Taram (SDO). A body search revealed suspected heroin weighing 1.49 grams (including packet) and ganja weighing 3.12 grams (including packet).

The seized contraband was weighed, packed, sealed, and documented in accordance with legal provisions, with the entire operation videographed to ensure transparency. The accused has been taken into custody, and the seized items have been handed over to Pasighat Police Station for further legal proceedings. A case has been registered under PSGT/PS/C/No. 45/26, invoking Section 21(a)/20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act.

Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Pankaj Lamba, IPS, commended the efforts of the team and reiterated the district police’s zero-tolerance stance against drug-related offences. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report illicit activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital to achieving a drug-free East Siang.
