Guwahati, June 4: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) announced on Thursday that it will soon roll out the Cell Broadcast System (CBS), a public warning mechanism developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) under the Department of Telecommunications. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The system enables authorities to transmit instant, geo-targeted emergency alerts directly to mobile phones in specific areas, ensuring timely dissemination of critical information during disasters. Officials noted that CBS has already been made available nationwide and was successfully tested across India in May.
According to ASDMA, the technology has proven effective in real disaster situations in several states, strengthening preparedness and response capabilities. The rollout in Assam is expected to enhance public safety by providing immediate alerts during natural calamities and other emergencies.
