Guwahati, Jan 1: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated a state-of-the-art 17.5-meter footbridge on GS Road, Paltan Bazar, marking a significant milestone in the state’s urban infrastructure development.

Built at a cost of Rs 17 crore, the footbridge is designed to enhance pedestrian safety and alleviate traffic congestion in one of Guwahati’s busiest commercial zones. The structure features several advanced facilities aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for all citizens, including:

A lift for Divyangjans (persons with disabilities), ensuring ease of access.

An escalator for women and senior citizens, providing a smooth, hassle-free experience.

An advanced drainage system to prevent waterlogging during rainfall.

A dedicated safety room offering emergency assistance and security.

The new footbridge is expected to improve traffic flow on GS Road and provide a safer, more efficient pathway for pedestrians in the bustling Paltan Bazar area. This initiative is part of the Assam Government’s broader vision to transform urban spaces into more sustainable, inclusive environments.
