Guwahati, Feb 3: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for securing a key India–United States trade agreement that reduces tariffs on “Made in India” products to 18 per cent.
In a post on X, Sarma described the agreement as a significant milestone and credited Modi’s leadership for strengthening India’s position in global trade. He said the deal would help open international markets for Indian youth, farmers, and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Sarma stated that the agreement would act as a force multiplier for cooperation between India and the United States, referring to closer collaboration between the two democracies under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump.
Prime Minister Modi announced the tariff reduction on Monday following a conversation with President Trump. In a post on X, Modi welcomed the decision, saying the reduction would benefit Indian products and create new economic opportunities. He added that cooperation between the two large economies and democracies would be beneficial for their people and contribute to global growth and stability.
The trade agreement is expected to improve market access for Indian goods in the United States and further strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
