Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday reviewed the progress of key development and welfare schemes in the Sonari, Nowboicha, and Tingkhong Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs), underlining the government’s commitment to timely implementation and regional development.
At the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh, Sarma chaired a review meeting for Sonari LAC, where he assessed the status of schemes including Jal Jeevan Mission, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Nijut Moina, Eti Koli Duti Paat, PM Fasal Bima Yojana, and Mukhya Mantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan. Stressing transparency and efficiency, he urged officials to ensure visible impact for the nearly four lakh residents of Charaideo district.
The Chief Minister directed the Public Works Department to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed railway overbridge at Nahar Ali to ease traffic congestion. He also instructed the district administration to monitor agricultural conditions due to below-average rainfall and to ensure availability of the Bina 11 seed variety.
Sarma announced that an 800-seat modern auditorium and a new Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown will be constructed in Sonari. He also ordered the upgradation of Sonari Town Road and improvement of border roads to enhance connectivity. Additionally, he directed the Deputy Commissioner to evaluate and improve infrastructure at Navodaya Vidyalaya.
The Sonari review meeting was attended by Minister Bimal Bora, MLA Dharmeswar Konwar, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, and senior officials.
In a separate meeting held in Lakhimpur district’s Nowboicha LAC, the Chief Minister reviewed flood mitigation, infrastructure development, and employment schemes. He directed Deputy Commissioner Pranabjit Kakoty to develop Amrit Sarovar ponds for pisciculture, strengthen embankments, and build raised platforms to assist communities during floods.
The meeting was attended by Minister Ranoj Pegu, MLA Manab Deka, and senior officials.
Later in the day, Sarma reviewed development activities in Tingkhong LAC in Dibrugarh district, reaffirming the state government’s continued focus on region-specific planning and citizen-centric governance.
