Assam Police have detained three minors in connection with the alleged gangrape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Barpeta district. The incident occurred on Monday in the Baghbar area when the child was returning home from school earlier than usual due to feeling unwell.

According to Barpeta Additional Superintendent of Police Sameeran Baishya, the accused intercepted the girl on her way home, dragged her into a jute field, and sexually assaulted her. They then strangled her to death and abandoned the body at the spot.

When the girl failed to return home by evening, her family alerted the police. A search was launched, and her body was discovered later that night in the field. Following preliminary investigation, three boys were taken into custody.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway, and additional details will be shared as the case progresses.
