Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia Urges Students to Lead in Building ‘Viksit Bharat’ at Tripura University Workshop

Agartala, April 21, 2026: A three-day workshop organized by the Department of Rural Development at Tripura University commenced at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Auditorium on Monday, with a strong emphasis on the role of students in nation-building and rural development.

Addressing the gathering, Rampada Jamatia, Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, called upon students to remain focused on their studies and avoid distractions, particularly from excessive mobile phone usage. He cautioned that while digital platforms can often lead to confusion, they can also be powerful tools for self-improvement if used wisely.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Vikshit Bharat,” Jamatia stressed that students must actively contribute to building a developed India by 2047. He encouraged them to embrace the guiding principles of development, science, and research, adding that rural transformation is achievable through education and awareness.

Vice-Chancellor (Senior Professor) Shyamal Das highlighted the growing competitiveness in today’s world, stating that education must go beyond acquiring certificates. “True learning is essential for both personal growth and national progress,” he remarked, urging students to remain goal-oriented and resilient.

Das also emphasized the importance of respecting farmers and reconnecting with rural roots. He noted that understanding India requires firsthand exposure to village life and acknowledged the critical role farmers play in sustaining the nation.

Registrar (Senior Professor) Samir Kumar Shil underscored that students are the driving force behind future socio-economic development. He drew attention to challenges posed by climate change and declining surface water resources, particularly for the agricultural sector.

The workshop aims to equip students with insights and strategies to improve rural livelihoods while fostering a deeper sense of responsibility toward sustainable development.
