Aizawl, Oct 27: The Aizawl bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed the contractor responsible for repairing the deteriorated Sairang–Kawnpui stretch of National Highway-306/06 to submit a detailed progress report by October 31.
The directive came during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the Mizoram Truck Drivers Association over the poor state of the highway, which serves as a crucial supply route for the state.
A two-judge bench instructed MSJ Infratech, the project contractor, to file an affidavit outlining the current progress and completion timeline. The court warned that if the affidavit is not filed within the deadline, officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) would have to appear in person before the court on November 6, the next date of hearing.
The PIL, filed in July, underscored the worsening condition of the Sairang–Kawnpui section, particularly during the monsoon, which disrupts transport and affects daily life across Mizoram.
