Agartala, October 31, 2025: Tripura has taken a significant stride in its renewable energy mission, recording over 4 megawatts of power generation through rooftop solar installations under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

According to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), a total of 16,965 households in the state have registered under the scheme so far. Of these, 1,210 households have already installed rooftop solar systems, feeding sustainable energy into the grid as well as powering their own residences.

TSECL officials said the initiative is not only helping households meet their daily electricity needs but is also turning residents into green energy contributors. “So far, 187 consumers have sold surplus power to the grid, earning a cumulative amount of Rs 53,514, which has been directly credited to their bank accounts,” the corporation stated.

Officials noted that the project is transforming the energy landscape in the state, especially in rural belts, by promoting self-reliance in electricity generation and cutting down dependence on conventional power sources.

“The sun, which once marked the end of daylight in many parts of Tripura, is today becoming a source of both light and livelihood,” TSECL said, adding that the scheme is encouraging clean energy adoption at the grassroots level.

The corporation further emphasized that the initiative symbolizes Tripura’s shift toward a sustainable and future-ready power infrastructure. “Development is no longer limited to electric poles and wires—it is reaching households through empowered citizens who are now generating and contributing power. This journey marks a major step toward a self-sustaining and eco-friendly Tripura,” it added.

The state administration expects the number of installations to rise sharply in the coming months as more applicants complete the process under the central scheme.
