Agartala, May 15, 2026: Tripura’s former Deputy Chief Minister and Maharashtra’s Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Friday held a meeting with Rajashree Birla, Padma Bhushan awardee and wife of late industrialist Aditya Birla, to discuss various social and philanthropic initiatives being undertaken by the Aditya Birla Group and its associated trusts. Shri Askaran Agarwala was also present during the meeting.
During the interaction, Rajashree Birla apprised the Governor about the wide range of welfare activities being carried out by the Aditya Birla Group across the country in sectors such as healthcare, education, rural development, women empowerment, and livelihood generation. Special emphasis was laid on the organisation’s work with traditional weavers and artisan communities in different parts of India.
Speaking after the meeting, Jishnu Dev Varma suggested that the Aditya Birla Group may consider expanding its social and developmental activities to the North Eastern Region, particularly in the handloom and handicraft sectors. He noted that the Northeast is home to a rich and vibrant tradition of indigenous weaving and handicrafts, with immense untapped potential.
The Governor praised the outstanding work being done by Rajashree Birla and her team with weaving communities across the country and said the North East Region could emerge as a worthwhile area for future collaboration, empowerment of artisans, and promotion of traditional crafts on a larger platform.
