Aizawl, May 15: Mizoram’s new National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Headquarters Office was virtually inaugurated on Friday by Director General Lt. Gen Virendra Vats, YSM, SM, VSM. The office, located at Level 2 of the New High Court Parking Complex in MINECO, marks a significant milestone in strengthening NCC’s presence in the state. The ceremony was attended by senior officials including Sports & Youth Services Department Director H. Lalhmingthanga, Deputy Director Jennifer Chongthu, DDK Aizawl Director (News) Shri Nampibou Marinmai, NCC Mizoram Group Commander Brig GS Arora, and 23 Sector Assam Rifles DIG Brig Pushpendar Sorayan.

In his address, Lt. Gen Vats expressed gratitude to the Government of Mizoram, Brig Arora, and the cadets, noting that robust infrastructure enhances the efficiency of organisations and contributes to national progress. He emphasized that Mizoram’s new headquarters would accelerate development across the Northeast and urged cadets to make the NCC programme more aspirational and inclusive. “We cannot look East by overlooking the Northeast,” he remarked, encouraging youth participation to foster unity in diversity. He further highlighted the importance of integrating hardware, software, and manpower, stressing that while infrastructure is now in place, focus must shift to nurturing human resources and programmes. Lt. Gen Vats also conveyed his wish to visit Mizoram soon.

During the event, Brig GS Arora launched the official Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts of the NCC Group Headquarters, Aizawl. He pledged continued dedication to future initiatives, describing the inauguration as the beginning of a larger mission. The programme opened with an invocation by Rev Samuel Lalrinsanga, and achiever cadets and alumni from the North Eastern Region were felicitated. Brig Arora concluded the ceremony with a vote of thanks.

The inauguration marks the culmination of a long process to establish a permanent NCC Group Headquarters in Mizoram. The NCC, founded in India in 1948, has been active in Mizoram since 1964, with four battalions currently operating in Aizawl and Lunglei. Under the expansion plan, the Government of Mizoram sanctioned the establishment of the Group HQ in January 2024, with the flag unveiled by Chief Minister Lalduhoma in January 2026 and the headquarters formally inaugurated by Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh later that month. The office functioned temporarily at the Sports & Youth Services Department building until May 14, 2026, before moving to its permanent location under the command of a Brigadier.
