A 63-year-old woman was found brutally murdered inside her residence at Charhajare in Kangpokpi district on the night of May 3, triggering fear among local residents.

The deceased has been identified as Pushpa Devi, wife of Nakul Poudel. According to reports, gold jewellery, cash and other valuable items were missing from the house, pointing to a suspected robbery-murder.

Locals discovered the crime on the morning of May 4 when they visited her residence and found her lying in a pool of blood.

Sources said the victim had sustained severe head injuries, allegedly inflicted with a blunt object. Preliminary suspicion indicates that unidentified assailants may have entered the house late at night, killed the woman and fled with valuables.
The victim was reportedly living with her mentally challenged younger brother and had no immediate dependants, adding to the vulnerability surrounding the incident.

Following an inquest, police from Gamnom Sapermeina Police Station shifted the body to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for post-mortem examination.

The autopsy was conducted on Monday in the presence of a magistrate with full video documentation, after which the body was handed over to the family for last rites.

Meanwhile, the Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union has strongly condemned the killing, terming it an “inhuman act,” and demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. The organisation expressed concern over the safety of elderly citizens living alone and stated that the crime has created widespread fear among residents.

Urging swift justice, the union also called on authorities to strengthen security measures for vulnerable sections across the state.
