A fresh incident of violence occurred on Thursday afternoon near the foothills of Bishnupur district, leaving a farmer injured after being struck by a bullet reportedly fired by miscreants at Phubala.

The victim, identified as Ningthoujam Biren, was working in a paddy field along with two others when the incident took place between 3:15 and 3:20 PM. According to Biren, around five rounds of gunfire were heard from the direction of nearby hill slopes, triggering panic among the farmers.

Biren sustained a bullet injury on his left forearm and was immediately taken to the district hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. A video showing the injured farmer being treated by medical personnel has surfaced on social media, sparking widespread concern and condemnation.

Local residents of Phubala and adjoining villages suspect the involvement of Kuki militants, citing the origin of the shots and a pattern of similar attacks in the area in recent weeks. They have voiced growing fear and frustration over the lack of adequate security presence in these vulnerable agricultural zones, particularly during farming hours.

In response, a police team rushed to the scene to conduct an investigation and gather information from eyewitnesses. While no official statement has been issued by the district police or security agencies regarding the identity of the attackers, security forces have been placed on high alert, and reinforcement patrols have been intensified to prevent further violence.

The situation remains tense in Phubala, with local organizations demanding immediate action to safeguard farmers and ensure the prevention of future attacks.
